Job Description:
We are seeking a Lead Inpatient Coder to support both coding production and operational workflow. This is a hybrid role (50% coding / 50% operational support) where you will act as a subject matter expert, assisting with complex accounts, workflow management, and process improvement initiatives within a large academic hospital setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform inpatient coding across a wide range of cases (newborn to high-dollar encounters)
- Serve as a coding SME and go-to resource for team questions
- Assist with workflow management, including assigning and monitoring coding queues
- Troubleshoot problem accounts and route issues to appropriate departments
- Support process improvement and operational efficiency initiatives
- Collaborate closely with leadership to enhance coding workflows and accuracy
- Maintain productivity of ~2 charts per hour with 95% accuracy (quality-focused)
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of inpatient coding experience in a large academic hospital setting
- Strong experience with complex cases including: cardiac, transplants, orthopedics, neurology, GI, oncology, and mother/baby
- Strong focus on sequencing and coding accuracy
- Experience with operational or leadership responsibilities (non-people management)
- Proficiency with EPIC; experience with Dolbey CAC preferred (or willingness to learn)
- Certifications required: CCS, RHIT, or RHIA (AHIMA)

- Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours/week, Monday–Friday (daytime hours)
