Title: Assistant Controller

Location: Olney MD

Days in Office: Full-time in office initially; flexibility earned over time

Pay: $140,000 – $160,000 base salary + bonus potential

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
  • 7–10 years of experience with a blend of public and corporate experience
  • Experience managing and developing a team of 3–5 accounting professionals
  • Strong background in financial reporting, general ledger accounting, and audit coordination
  • Experience working in high-volume or large revenue environments
  • Experience supporting multi-entity organizations
  • Proven ability to improve accounting processes and strengthen documentation standards
  • Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Ability to operate both hands-on in the details and strategically with leadership

Job Overview

  • Serve as the right hand to the Controller supporting the corporate accounting function
  • Oversee general ledger activity and ensure accurate and timely financial reporting
  • Manage the monthly close process including balance sheet reconciliations and financial statement preparation
  • Lead internal financial reporting across multiple operating units in a high-volume environment
  • Manage and develop a team of senior and staff accountants
  • Coordinate the annual external audit process and serve as the primary liaison with auditors
  • Strengthen documentation standards, accounting policies, and internal controls
  • Partner with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Treasury, and FP&A teams to improve reporting accuracy and close efficiency
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation across accounting workflows
  • Support integration of newly acquired entities into accounting systems and reporting processes
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities related to corporate accounting operations
  • Provide ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting support to leadership as needed
