April labor report: the job market continues to surpass expectations

The US economy again surpassed economists’ expectations, adding 115,000 new roles in April according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. The unemployment rate remained unchanged from March, holding at 4.3%.

Healthcare led the way, adding 37,000 new jobs. The majority of these gains occurred in nursing, residential care facilities, and home health care services.

Federal government employment continued to decline with a loss of 9,000 jobs.

Professional and business services gained 7,000 roles, while leisure and hospitality grew by 14,000 roles.
