Job Description: Our client is seeking a Leave Specialist to join a small, collaborative HR/Benefits team. This person will serve as a subject matter expert in Leave of Absence and Disability programs while supporting employees, HR Business Partners, Payroll, HRIS and the company’s leave administrator. The ideal candidate is reliable, empathetic, personable and able to jump right in with minimal hand-holding.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day administration of FMLA, STD/LTD, personal, parental, state, ADA and military leaves.
- Partner with and manage the leave administrator.
- Guide employees through the leave process and ensure they understand expectations and responsibilities.
- Partner with HRIS and Payroll to track leave eligibility and status.
- Review and coordinate payroll needs and offsets related to disability and parental leave.
- Coordinate ADA accommodation requests with HR Business Partners.
- Stay current on state paid leave requirements and applicable legislation.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for leave programs and employee inquiries.
- Support HR Business Partners with leave administration.
- Review procedures and recommend process improvements.
- Partner with HR, management and Legal on escalated leave matters.
- Provide leave education and guidance to employees and managers.
- Process health and welfare benefit invoices.
- Administer the commuter benefits program and coordinate with the vendor.
- Support new hire orientation and communicate benefits, leave and HR resources.
Qualifications:
- 2+ years of hands-on Leave Administration experience.
- Strong knowledge of FMLA, disability, ADA, military, parental and state leave programs.
- Experience partnering with HRIS and Payroll.
- HR systems experience; UKG and leave portal experience are a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and follow-through.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Reliable, self-sufficient and able to work independently.
- Empathetic and comfortable supporting employees through sensitive situations.
- Strong HR experience is prioritized over specific educational requirements.
Additional Details:
- Immediate need with a target start date of Monday, October 5.
- Current team member will be out on leave, creating the need for temporary coverage.
- Small, collaborative team of four.
- Reports to the Sr. Manager, Employee Benefits.
- Two-step virtual interview process.
- Office located at Convenient Tysons location near the Silver Line.
