Summary
The Accounting Supervisor reports to the Finance Manager and oversees daily accounting operations and staff. This role is responsible for supervising a small team, prioritizing workloads, supporting financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with internal policies and GAAP standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise accounting staff, including workload distribution, performance evaluations, and development
- Oversee accounts payable/receivable, general ledger activity, and monthly close processes
- Review invoices, disbursements, bank reconciliations, and financial reports for accuracy and timeliness
- Ensure timely payments for debt obligations, vendors, and payroll-related transactions
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements ahead of board meetings
- Monitor bad debt, implement collection procedures, and recommend process improvements
- Assist with annual budget preparation and financial planning
- Maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements
- Serve as primary contact for external audits and coordinate audit requests
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
- 8+ years of accounting experience (GAAP preferred)
- 3+ years of supervisory or management experience
- Experience with AP, payroll, and general ledger in a governmental or fund accounting environment preferred
- Strong communication, organization, and systems skills
Work Environment
- In-person role in a professional office setting
