Addison Group Delivers AI Team to Build ML Models for Healthcare Start-Up
A start-up in the musculoskeletal care space needed a team to build an AI program to address healthcare data problems.
Challenge
The start-up needed to build a team that would develop machine learning models for healthcare data problems in the musculoskeletal care space, such as improving their surgery risk prediction process, summarizing patient history for care teams, and streamlining patient questions through a chatbot. The project required extensive automation that needed to be completed quickly.
Without this team and working models, they risked losing business already signed up for the program.
Solutions
Because of our existing relationship and proven track record with the company’s Chief People Officer, Addison Group was the clear choice to solve this problem.
The client was looking to build a team of consultants that consisted of a Machine Learning Engineer, an AI Data Scientist, a Senior Data Engineer, and an Analytics Consultant. The desired skill sets required a mix of traditional machine learning methodologies, modern language processing experience, and also people who could deploy this in practice. The team would need to set up best practices and new standards in the machine learning environment for future growth.
After analyzing our vast network of experienced IT candidates, the Addison team chose several AI experts with hands-on experience producing and deploying machine learning models, not just a theoretical background. Within two weeks of the initial request, the selected talent was ready to start. Less than a year later, the talent converted
to full-time employees and continue to advance their AI programs.
Results
The team:
- Contributed to healthcare-focused ML/AI initiatives, including a predictive analytics project for surgery risk prediction that followed a traditional pipeline of data wrangling, feature engineering, feature selection, model training, and deployment for prediction.
- Developed a patient history summarization system that ingests clinical data and produces concise, readable summaries for care teams using robust data ingestion, cleaning, and heavy prompt engineering with large language models.
- Built a conversational assistant using LLM routing to answer patient questions about their care pathway, and will incorporate engagement mechanisms, digital intake flows, and an agentic evaluator to detect and escalate issues with the chatbot
