5 Things to Expect From a Second Interview

Addison Group

You’ve made it to the second interview. That’s great and means you’re moving along in the hiring process. The good news is this gives you another chance to shine. A second interview also means the selection process is getting more serious. Here is what you can typically expect if a hiring manager calls you in for a second interview.

You’ll Be Interviewed By Different People

Don’t expect to speak with the same people that you spoke with on your first interview. In many cases, other members of the management team want to speak with you so that everyone can offer input as to whether you are a good fit for the company. Be prepared to see different faces who may have different questions.

Money Talk During the Second Interview

It can be considered impolite to talk about money and benefits during the first interview. However, the second interview will more than likely involve this conversation. Have an idea of what you expect to ask for in case you’re asked, “How much do you expect to earn?”

You May Get a Tour

Getting a second interview means the company is interested in you. If this round is in-person, you might get a tour of the office or facility. You’ll likely meet a lot of people and you’ll want to make good first impressions. It could be a very social day, so make sure your social battery is fully charged!

You Might Get Some Odd Questions Throughout the Second Interview

The first interview generally entails basic interview questions, such as “Why do you want to work here?” and “What is your biggest weakness?” For second interviews, management might go a little deeper or catch you off-guard by asking different questions. These questions may be geared more to your personality, rather than your professional experience. Be prepared to answer which superpower you’d want if given the choice, and more importantly, why.

You May Get An Offer On The Spot

Sometimes with a second interview, you may be offered the position right then and there. However, hiring managers may still need some time to come to a decision. At the very least, you can expect to hear about how the process will proceed. If you don’t, feel free to ask. Your curiosity and excitement for the next steps reaffirms your interest in the position, and that eagerness is attractive to hiring managers.
