We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Accounting Assistant to support financial operations for a local non-profit organization. This is an entry-level, developmental role designed to build foundational accounting skills through hands-on experience, with a clear path toward advancement into an Accountant position. Strong customer service skills and a collaborative mindset are essential, as this role works regularly with internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor accounts payable and accounts receivable inboxes, responding to requests or routing them to the appropriate party
- Respond to vendor inquiries regarding payment status
- Review Positive Pay items
- Record deposits made directly to the bank
- Reconcile recorded deposits to deposits received
- Post journal entries and file appropriate supporting documentation as needed
- Reconcile bank accounts, ensuring alignment with financial records
- Collect and file financial support documents
- Assist in the preparation of program workpapers
- Review loan balances and ensure they are accurately reflected on financial statements
- Support internal and external stakeholders including auditors and investors with documentation, reporting, and general accounting assistance
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives to strengthen financial operations and internal controls
- Foster positive working relationships with internal colleagues through open communication and a collaborative approach
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; candidates on track to graduate within one year will be considered
- Knowledge of GAAP, GASB, and fund accounting principles
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software; Yardi experience a plus
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage competing priorities independently and collaboratively
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
