The engineering team works with large datasets, complex processing workflows, and highly computational applications while transitioning from legacy technologies to a more modern, Python-focused environment.
Job Description:
We are seeking a Software Engineer with strong hands-on Python development experience to help drive technology modernization initiatives. This role will focus on backend engineering, large-scale data processing, complex computational workloads, and evolving legacy applications into scalable, modern solutions.
The ideal candidate will be a strong individual contributor who can take ownership of technical initiatives, make architectural decisions, and remain actively involved in development. This position offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on the team's technology direction while potentially growing into a broader technical leadership role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and enhance backend applications and services primarily using Python.
- Design solutions for processing, transforming, and working with large volumes of data.
- Build efficient systems capable of handling complex calculations and computational workloads.
- Participate in modernization efforts involving legacy applications and technology stacks.
- Assess existing systems and recommend improvements related to scalability, performance, and maintainability.
- Contribute to backend architecture, APIs, databases, and distributed application design.
- Develop and support applications using cloud and containerized technologies.
- Take ownership of technical solutions from requirements through implementation and delivery.
- Partner with engineering and business teams to translate complex requirements into effective software solutions.
- Identify performance challenges and implement strategies to improve system efficiency.
- Influence technical direction while continuing to remain highly hands-on with development.
- Collaborate with other engineers on broader modernization and application development initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Software engineering experience with extensive hands-on Python development.
- Experience building backend applications, services, or data-intensive solutions.
- Strong background working with large datasets and complex data-processing workflows.
- Solid understanding of backend architecture and database technologies.
- Experience with REST APIs, microservices, SQL databases, or similar backend technologies.
- Proven experience helping modernize legacy applications or transition older technology stacks.
- Ability to independently manage technical initiatives and make sound engineering decisions.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
Additional Details:
- Knowledge of multiprocessing, parallel computing, distributed processing, or other scalable computational approaches is a plus.
- Financial services experience is beneficial, particularly exposure to financial data, securitized assets, or structured finance.
- Potential for conversion to Full Time after approximately 12–24 months.
- Background check and drug screening may be required.
