V-Week 2023: Volunteering to Make a Difference

Addison Group

Valentine’s Day is a day when we express our love and gratitude to those we cherish.

For the second consecutive year, Addison Group has turned the holiday into a weeklong celebration, Volunteer Week (V-Week), supporting those in need in the communities we call home to make a difference.

This year was even bigger than last with the Addison Group family of brands volunteering for the first time together. Throughout the week, every office participated in volunteer activities to make a difference in their local communities.

Read below some of the volunteer initiatives our teams participated in across the country.

Schaumburg, IL – Addison Group Volunteer Week

Our Schaumburg, IL office volunteered at Feed My Starving Children for the second year to celebrate Volunteer Week. This year, they packed 158 boxes of food – 33 more than they put together last year! Through their service, that’s 34,128 meals that will feed 94 children for a year.

Kelsey Schlegle, office manager for our Schaumburg location, shared what the experience meant to her team, “Not only do we get to help the world’s most vulnerable, but this also works as an amazing team building activity and a great way for people in different groups to interact!”

Chicago – Addison Group Volunteer Week

Addison Group’s headquarter office in Chicago, volunteered in three sessions at the Greater Chicago Food Depository. In total, they packed 33,412 pounds of food, equaling 27,843 meals for people who face food insecurity.

Office manager Michele Kwok, participated in all three sessions at the Great Chicago Food Depository. “We picked this organization because there is such a big food crisis with thousands of people facing hunger, so we wanted to help as much as we could,” Michele said.

“This experience was impactful to our office because it gave us insight into a community who are affected daily by food insecurity, all relying on organizations such as Capital Area Food Bank to assist them in their well-being.”

Miguel Villanueva, Office Manager, Washington D.C.

Reston – Addison Group Volunteer Week

At our Reston, VA office, they volunteered a total of 72 hours at Northern Virginia Family Service’s thrift shop, which directly funds their outreach programs. While volunteering, they sorted, tagged, and organized donations to the shop.

“It was such a rewarding experience to get out of the office with the team and spend time out in the community, where we were able to directly see the impact of what we were doing,” said Office Coordinator, Lo Slezak.

Washington D.C. – Addison Group Volunteer Week

Our D.C. office volunteered at the Capital Area Food Bank to help assemble care packages for the elderly population in the community. Overall, the team packed more than 600 hundred boxes of food with each box feeding up to three individuals for a week.

Office Manager Miguel Villanueva reflected on how volunteering here affected his team, “This experience was impactful to our office because it gave us insight into a community who are affected daily by food insecurity, all relying on organizations such as Capital Area Food Bank to assist them in their well-being.”

The events during V-Week shared here are only a fraction of the love we showed in our local communities this Valentine’s Day week, and the efforts from the rest of the Addison Group family do not go unnoticed.

Thank you to everyone for making V-Week a reality and positively affecting our communities.

AGCares V-Week was organized by a group of senior and regional vice presidents, in addition to our Administrative team. Learn more about who we are at Addison Group.
