February labor report: US economy adds 151,000 jobs

The US labor market added a weaker than expected 151,000 new jobs in February. The unemployment rate inched up to 4.1% compared to 4% in January, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Nonfarm payroll employment, over month change, seasonally adjusted, February 2023 - February 2025

Healthcare carried some of the largest job gains in February, with 52,000 new jobs added.

Government overall added 11,000 new jobs; however, within government, federal government employment declined by 10,000 jobs in February.

Leisure and hospitality and professional and business services saw losses of 16,000 and 2,000, respectively.
