Digital Marketing hiring trends, hot jobs & top salaries 2025

Addison Group
Addison Group shares digital marketing hiring trends for 2025

With over 5 billion social media users worldwide and growing daily, it’s no surprise digital marketing is among the top 10 in-demand skills for 20241. Today, 25% of 18-54-year-olds use social search with digital revenue projected to reach $700 billion by 2025. That’s positive news for digital marketing strategists, social media directors, SEO specialists, and digital media buyers.

While the digital marketing industry is projecting solid 6% annual growth until 20322, companies and candidates are slowing down hiring decisions as they evaluate the current economy and move more cautiously after the hiring frenzy of the past few years. That hesitation may be short-lived, however, considering that digital marketing ad spending has exceeded expectations – projected to surpass $730 billion.3

Shift to a strategic mindset

Within an environment of constant innovation and change, the industry needs more digital marketers with strategy and implementation experience. Management-level roles in marketing data analysis, AI, and automation will be more prevalent and skills in personalization, video marketing, and storytelling rank high with employers. Employers trying to better gauge problem-solving ability should look beyond resumes and incorporate strategic thinking screening questions, such as “Describe a time when you had to make a significant decision without having all the information that you needed at the time.”

Marketers want security

Digital Marketing statistic that says 'candidates with AI skills earn up to 25% more in certain markets'

Despite some softening in the job market, the availability of high-quality digital marketing talent remains tight. Many potential candidates are opting to stay in existing positions, only considering a move when everything is ‘just right.’

Companies who face a tight market need to define what ‘just right’ means. Although salary is still the top motivator, candidates are also looking for a better culture fit and more benefits. Flexibility also continues to be key for digital marketing professionals. Employers bringing team members back to the office need to consider this as they make decisions around hybrid schedules and work life balance policies.

AI brings opportunity & uncertainty

Like past innovations from electricity to computers, AI is a revolutionary change that will impact the world in yet untold ways. Digital marketers are beginning to see its impact in areas like content creation, research, and data analysis.

While marketers ultimately have no idea how AI will impact their job security, right now, there’s no need to worry. It’s true that Generative AI continues to hold the world captive with its immense possibilities, yet most companies are still in an early AI testing phase with 37% using it in daily tasks.6 Some marketing experts have criticized content quality, noting some disillusionment based on the technology’s current limitations.

AI won’t replace digital marketers anytime soon but candidates with AI skills do have a clear advantage and can earn up to 25% more in certain markets.7
