June labor report: The job market remains steady

The U.S. labor market added 206,000 new jobs in June, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The unemployment rate increased slightly to 4.1% compared to 4% in May.

Government and healthcare saw the largest job gains in June.

Healthcare added 49,000 new roles in June. Although lower than the average monthly gain of 64,000 new jobs throughout the past year, this number shows that there is still strong growth in healthcare.

Government had 70,000 new roles added in June, which is higher than the average monthly gain of 49,000 new roles over the past year.

Professional and business services saw a decline of 17,000 roles in the latest report.

Leisure and hospitality saw 7,000 new roles added in June.

The June labor report topped economists’ expectations of 200,000 new roles and continues to show steady growth. The US labor market remains strong with June’s report marking the 42nd consecutive month of growth.
